However, away from all the usual stuff, our pitch-winning platform was based on the insight ‘nine out of 10 people in refugee camps have no access to lighting’, as the IOC is a big supporter of the UN’s refugee agency.
Audiences were asked to donate their physical activity, recorded by fitness devices such as Garmin and Strava, as ‘Sparks’. The IOC then donated those ‘Ssparks’ to the UNHCR, which provided them as light to illuminate the Mahama camp in Rwanda which houses 55,000 refugees.
